FIAP’s purpose is the promotion of photographic art through photographic
events without consideration of politics, ideology, race, or religion.

FIAP’s members are national photography organizations called Operational
Members. Each of the 91 Operational Members has a FIAP Liaison Officer.
FIAP is managed by a nine-person Board of Directors who are elected by
the Operational Members’ Liaison Officers during the biennial Congress.
The Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP), or the International Federation of Photographic Art in English, is an international non-profit organization that has its legal seat in Luxembourg. Ninety-one (91) national photography organizations are Operational Members of FIAP from all continents except Antarctica.
FIAP-member photography organizations are in countries that are members of the United Nations. FIAP is the only international photography organization that is recognized by UNESCO.
FIAP and the Photographic Society of America Worldwide (PSA) are the two photography organizations that establish, implement, and regulate the standards for international photography contests called salons or exhibitions.
HISTORY: FIAP was founded by Dr. M Van de Wijer of Belgium who, beginning in 1946, established links between different national photographic associations throughout the world. The official founding of FIAP took place in 1950 at the first Congress in Bern, Switzerland with delegates from ten countries. In 2004 during the Budapest Congress, FIAP had new statutes and a new headquarters in Paris, France. In 2014 during the Ankara, Turkey Congress, FIAP adopted new statutes and established a legal seat in Luxemburg.
